Exam Information and Application

The BCCA is pleased to announce that we will be administering the first examination for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology in the Fall of 2008.  For your convenience, the date(s) and time will coincide with the American Anaplastology Association conference and be in the same location.

Certification Examination Announcement

The first ever BCCA Certification Exam is being planned for Thursday, November 6, 2008 just prior to the AAA conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The BCCA board will be restricting eligibility to sit for the '08 Exam to current BCCA certification holders who are "Certified by Credentials Alone."

This testing will be used as a pilot with the goal of validating the certification exam. We are also using the pilot testing to assure the quality and fairness of the registration, administration, and scoring processes. These steps are essential elements in the establishment of an accredited certification program (NCCA standards 12, 13, 14).

Those current certificants who wish to sit for the exam this November must complete their application and return it along with payment to the BCCA administrative office by August 1, 2008. CLICK HERE for registration application

The process of selecting individuals by credentials alone for BCCA certification, ended on June 30, 2006. This effort served to identify persons that would serve as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and would assist in the development and validation of a certification exam specific to the field of Anaplastology. These individuals received a certificate from the BCCA and are considered "Certified by Credentials Alone".

The requirement for all certificants "Certified by Credentials Alone” to sit for the exam was announced at the Chicago AAA meeting in the summer of 2006, in the Winter '07 AAA Newsletter, and in subsequent mailings to all BCCA certified individuals. Current certificants will be required to sit for the certification exam within 2 years of its first offering in November, 2008. In addition to passing the exam, current CCAs must have renewed their BCCA certification by the payment of a yearly renewal fee. Certificants will not be eligible to register to take the examination until their renewal fee is paid.

Those who pass the exam will enter a five-year renewal cycle beginning on the date of the passed exam. They will need to meet all renewal requirements including payment of fees and meeting continuing competency requirements to maintain their certification as an “Active in Good Standing” Certified Clinical Anaplastologist. (See procedures for Active in Good Standing in the 07-08 Certification Renewal Handbook).

Inactive Probation Period

Individuals "Certified by Credentials Alone" who do not pass the exam will be placed on "Inactive /Probationary Status". Such individuals will:

  • no longer be considered "certified" by the BCCA and will not be permitted to use previously issued BCCA certificates as proof of certification.

  • be required to sit again for the exam - by November 8, 2010. They will not be required to meet the eligibility requirements for new applicants.

  • must pass the BCCA exam in order to reinstate “Active in Good Standing “status.

  • must pay for any exam-related fees and expenses.

Once they pass the certification examination, they will be allowed to apply properly documented “Continuing Competency Credits” accrued during the “Inactive Probationary Period” to their 5-year renewal cycle.

Should the candidate fail the exam on their second attempt, they will be considered “Suspended”. To recertify, they must meet eligibility requirements applicable at the time of reapplication and any other conditions outlined in the Certification Renewal Handbook that apply to “Suspended” certificants.
